Our Strategy to Reach the Nation

Portugal has been free from dictatorship since 1975. Before then, the Catholic Church was the official church recognized by the regime, all other churches were prohibited.

Today, Brazilians (who also speak Portuguese) are planting many churches in Portugal. Pastor Waldir Batista moved from Brazil to Portugal with his family, is diligently building relationships, forming teams and planting indigenous churches. Currently there are two churches, one in Oerias, the other in Barreiro.

Following the trend in Europe, Portugal has a small number of evangelical Christians (under 1%). Pastor Waldir and his team are very much aware that traditional methods of planting a church do not work in this nation. The vision is to build strong relationships and in this way preparing an environment where the gospel can be shared an communicated in many ways.
